The Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS), Tanzania Project
Delivery Team (PDT) organized a 20th PDT
which took place at Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) headquarter, Ubungo
Plaza. The meeting was also attended by representative from DFiD and Climate Action Network TZ (CANTZ) as
invitee.
During
the meeting, the PDT called for partners and all stakeholders to enhance
implementation of GFCS activities, particularly the National Framework for
Climate Service (NFCS) and put more efforts in strengthening dissemination and
utilization of climate information and products.
The PDT also urged partners to take into consideration the role of climate services in strengthening the implementation of 1.5 0C goals as highlighted in the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) special report on im pacts of global warming of 1.50C.

“Impacts of global warming of 1.50C are devastating to natural and social system and
drastic and urgent actions need to be taken to save the planet and its people
and ecosystem”. Said Prof. Pius Yanda the PDT member and Vice Chair for Working
Group II of the IPCC as he explained key messages of the report.
Dr. Ladislaus Chang’a, the PDT chairperson and IPCC
focal point for Tanzania, added that, the
observed and projected increase in the number of hot days and other climate extremes such as floods
poses a serious threat to the achievement of the sustainable development goals
and Tanzania Development Vision.
The PDT also commended the secretariat and all partners for enhanced
gender mainstreaming in the implementation of GFCS activities, particulary the
enhanced participation of women from rural areas in weather and climate development
initiatives.
On
the other hand, PDT received progress reports on implementation of GFCS APA
phase II from Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS), Tanzania Meteorological Authority
(TMA), World Food Programme (WFP) and Ministry of Health, Community
Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC), and called for planned
activities to be done according to the
timeframe set.
PDT is
responsible for monitoring progress on programme activities, planning and
implementing joint activities, and normally
meets quarterly and consists of participants
from Tanzania Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Vice President Office (VPO),
Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children
(MoHCDGEC), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), World Health Organization (WHO), World
Food Program (WFP-TZ), Tanzania RedCross Society (TRCS) and Tanzania
Meteorological Agency (TMA).
