DISTRICT LEVEL STAKEHOLDERS CONSULTATION WORKSHOP ON “THE NATIONAL FRAMEWORK FOR CLIMATE SERVICES (NFCS)” HELD ON 23RD FEBRUARY, 2017 IN KITETO DISTRICT, MANYARA REGION

As part of implementation of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) programme in Tanzania, Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) organized a District Level Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on The National Framework for Climate Services (NFCS) in Kiteto District, Manyara Region, which was held on 23^rd February, 2017. The main objective was to share the progress in the preparation of the NFCS to stakeholders and solicit more inputs and comments for its improvement. The workshop was attended by experts (from Kiteto District Council, Tanzania Red Cross and representatives from Civil Society Organizations), community leaders, policy makers, farmers and pastoralists.

The workshop was officiated by speech from the Guest of Honour, the District Executive Director (DED) of Kiteto District Council, Mr. Tamim Kambo, and the Director General of TMA and Permanent Representative of Tanzania with WMO, Dr. Agnes Kijazi.  In their speech, both Mr. Kambo  and Dr. Kijazi thanked the Royal Government of Norway, World Meteorological Organization  and all GFCS partners for supporting the initiatives to enhance climate services in Tanzania. 

The workshop programme comprised of presentations on the status of GFCS implementation in Tanzania and  the draft NFCS. After the presentations, participants were organized in three groups to review the draft NFCS and provide comments and inputs for its improvement.

Some of the key comments and recommendations from the stakeholders were:

ü  The document need to be aligned with the National strategies and policies including the National development vision (Vision  2025),

ü  Priority sectors need to be expounded to include Water, Energy and Tourism

ü  Livestock sector should be treated with more weight and should be mentioned in the document and should not be hidden in Agriculture

ü  More awareness on climate and climate change and socio-economic benefits of weather and climate information is needed. Awareness and sensitization should also target Tribal Leaders and Private Sectors

ü  The document should be produced in both English and Swahili.

ü  TMA should establish and expand observation and monitoring Network in Kiteto and other districts.

NATIONAL FRAMEWORK FOR CLIMATE SERVICES WORKSHOP HELD ON 10TH FEBRUARY, 2017

Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) organized a stakeholder’s workshop on the National Framework for Climate Services (NFCS) which was held on 10^th February, 2017. The workshop was organized as part of implementation of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) programme in Tanzania known as “Climate Services Adaptation Programme in Africa on Building Resilience in Disaster Risk Management, Food Security, Nutrition and Health”.  
The main objective of the workshop was to share the progress in the preparation of the NFCS to stakeholders and solicit more inputs and comments for its improvement. It was attended by 45 participants from government, non-governmental organizations, Academia and UN Agencies, of which 30 were males and 15 were females. Out of the 60 participants, 17 were youth and 28 were senior experts.  
The workshop was officially opened at 9.30 AM by the Guest of Honour, the Director General of TMA and Permanent Representative with WMO, Dr. Agnes Kijazi.

Taarifa hii inatoa uchambuzi wa mifumo ya hali ya hewa kwa mwezi Oktoba, 2016 na mwelekeo wa viashiria vya mifumo ya hali ya hewa pamoja na mvua katika kipindi cha mwezi Novemba, 2016.

1. Mwelekeo wa mvua za Vuli, 2016 kwa kipindi cha mwezi Novemba, 2016:

Hali ya upungufu wa mvua inatarajiwa katika maeneo mengi ya nchi katika kipindi cha mwezi Novemba, 2016.

2. Maeneo ya Nyanda za juu Kaskazini mashariki pamoja  na maeneo ya mkoa wa Tabora mvua zinatarajiwa kuanza katika wiki ya tatu ya mwezi Novemba,2016.

3. Mvua za wastani hadi chini ya wastani zinatarajiwa katika maeneo ya Ukanda wa Ziwa Victoria, na  mvua za chini ya wastani katika maeneo mengine ya nchi.
