The
sixteenth meeting of the Project Delivery Team (PDT)
for GFCS implementation in Tanzania was held on 13th September at
Ubungo Plaza, Dar es Salaam. This was the first meeting in the context of
implementation of GFCS Adaptation Programme in Africa (APA) Phase II.
The
meeting was officiated by opening remarks from the Permanent Representative of
the United Republic of Tanzania with World Meteorological Organization, Dr.
Agnes Kijazi. In her remarks, she expressed her thanks and appreciation to PDT
members for the excellent work in implementation of Phase I that culminated
with the preparation and launching of the National Framework for Climate
Services for Tanzania. She urged the PDT to work with more momentum and focus
their efforts and skills in effective implementation of Phase II activities and
also the National Framework. The APA aims to increase the resilience of people
most vulnerable to the impact of weather and climate-related hazards by
developing user-driven climate services for food security, health and disaster
risk reduction in Tanzania and Malawi.
The PDT,
which normally meet on Quarterly basis, is responsible for monitoring progress
on implementation of the programme activities, planning and implementation of
joint activities. Members of the PDT include participants from Tanzania World
Food Program (WFP-TZ), Vice President Office (VPO), Prime Minister’s Office
(PMO), Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children
(MoHCDGEC), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), World Health Organization (WHO),
Tanzania RedCross Society (TRCS), Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) and the
University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM)
The
PDT deliberated on the preparation for the implementation of Phase II of the
GFCS Adaptation Programme in Africa, funded by Norwegian Agency for Development
Cooperation (NORAD).
PDT
members reviewed and endorsed the programme for the technical meeting scheduled
to take place on 17th September 2018 and the programme for the
official launching of the phase II that will be held on 18th
September 2018 at Golden Jubilee towers, in Dar es Salaam.
