The Director General of Tanzania
Meteorological Agency (TMA) and Permanent representative of Tanzania wth the World Meteorological
Organization (WMO) Dr. Agnes Kijazi urged on the use of scientific climate
modelling systems based on PRECIS. During the closing
ceremony of training workshop on
Climate Modelling held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania which took place from 29th
June to 03rd July 2015, Dr. Kijazi called for
all participants to make good use of the knowledge received as well
as ensuring positive changes and good contributions into their respective
services delivery. Dr. Kijazi also thanked the Government of Norway, the WMO
and UK Met Office and for the support through Global Framework for Climate
Services (GFCS) project. The workshop was attended by a number of
meteorologists from TMA and Malawi Meteorological Department.
On behalf of other participants, Mr. Clement from
Malawi Meteorological Department thanked the facilitators and organizers of the
workshop and insisted that participants will use the knowledge to develop the
best products for specific use such as agriculture and health for specific in
respectively area.
The training topics based on Modelling of the Earth Climate System, downscaling
techniques, designing RCM experiments, LINUX, uncertainties in the model and
data analysis. The training was conducted in collaboration between TMA and UK
Met Office. The topics were very useful and will contribute well to the process
of addressing the challenges posed by climate change in various socio-economic
sectors.
