On
15th - 18th July 2019, Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO),
National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) of United States of America
(USA), and other partners through the Weather and Climate Information Services
for Africa (WISER) programme to implement a 3-year research project titled
“HIGH Impact Weather lAKE sYstem(HIGHWAY)” organized a Radar training workshop to
enable effective use of climate information to minimize deaths and damage due
to severe convection and strong winds on Lake Victoria through improved use of
radar products. The training was conducted at TMA conference room, 3rd
floor Ubungo Plaza.
During the opening, the
Acting Director General of Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), Dr.
Ladislaus Chang’a, thanked HIGHWAY collaborating partners, for the good
cooperation and DFID for funds the project. He also thanked the facilitator of
the training for the preparation of the training and all other training
organizers (Internal and External) for the excellent work in organizing the
workshop. He acknowledge the good intention of the facilitator in departing
radar knowledge, and seem to be the best radar facilitator in the world and
expect them to deliver best knowledge that will enhance TMA capacity in interpretation and application of Radar products on giving best early warning and forecasting services . “Dear facilitator as the
best Radar facilitator in the world we expect to attain best knowledge that
will make TMA to be arm of Radar training across the African continent in terms
of new technology particularly in radar services” said Dr. Chang’a.
Dr.
Chang’a reminded the facilitators that, TMA has shifted to full
authority from Agency found during their previous visit. He insisted
participants to take the training as historical events as an authority and walk
through our TMA vision, to become centre of excellent in accelerating national
development by providing quality products and services.
Lastly,
Dr. Chang’a emphasized the participants and facilitator to cooperate during the
workshop by reminding them of the importance of the training at Nation level,
especially in social economy development in Tanzania that may facilitate to
shift into a middle income as an industrial dependent economy, which also
depend in raw materials from agricultural sectors.
