The innovation and creativity in Tanzania Meteorological Agency Seminar, was held under the Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Mitigation (CCIAM) program. The CCIAM program is a multi-institutional programme involving four institutions in Tanzania which are Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Ardhi University (ARU) and Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) together with a number of other institutions in Norway coordinated by the University of Life Sciences (NMBU) with support from the Government of Norway. As the CCIAM Programme is coming to an end Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) has decided to organize this seminar to share achievements in human capacity development, innovation and creativity related to climate services.

TANZANIA METEOROLOGICAL AGENCY LAUNCHES A PROGRAMME ON THE ENHANCEMENT OF NATIONAL CLIMATE SERVICES (ENACTS) IN TANZANIA
Tanzania Meteorological
Agency (TMA) in collaboration with the International Research Institute for
Climate and Society (IRI) of the United States of America has launched the
“Enhancing National Climate Services (ENACTS)” programmme which aims at enabling
users of climate services to access climate services in a simple and easy way
including through TMA’s Website (www.meteo.go.tz).
Dr. Buruhani Nyezi the Chairperson of
the TMA’s Ministerial Advisory Board on launching the service urged TMA to
enhance their services to benefit the society. Furthermore, Dr. Nyenzi
applauded TMA for their effort to collaborate with experts from various
institutions and countries who are members of the World Meteorological
Organization (WMO) in the process of enhancing TMA services in Tanzania.
Furthermore, Dr.Nyenzi thanked the IRI for their support in the ENACTS and its
official launch.
On her side, Dr. Agnes
Kijazi, the Director General of Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) called for
all stakeholders and public at large to mainstream weather and climate
information in planning and implementation of their socio-economic activities,
since all various socio-economic sectors in the country rely on weather and
climate.
Dr. Kijazi also appreciated
the support of IRI and for their collaborations with TMA in the past three
years working on ENACTS. Dr. Kijazi further thanked DFID through USA based
Columbia University for sponsoring the launching event of ENACTS which involved seventy (70) participants
from various stakeholders of weather and climate services in Tanzania
(Government and Non-Governments Organizations) that was held at Ubungo Plaza,
Dar es Salaam on 18 December 2015.

Mwenyekiti wa Bodi ya Ushauri ya Mamlaka Dkt. Buruhani Nyenzi aliitaka Mamlaka
ya Hali ya Hewa kuongeza ufanisi
katika utoaji wa huduma za hali ya hewa.
Aidha, Dkt Nyenzi aliipongeza Mamlaka ya Hali ya Hewa Tanzania (TMA) kwa jitihada
zake za kushirikiana na wataalam kutoka nchi mbalimbali ambazo ni wanachama wa
Shirika la Hali ya Hewa Duniani katika kuboresha huduma za hali ya hewa hapa
nchini. Mwenyekiti huyo wa Bodi ya
Ushauri ya TMA alikishukuru kituo cha kimataifa cha utafiti kilichoko Marekani
(IRI) kwa msaada waliotoa hata kuiwezesha TMA kukamilisha mfumo huo na kufikia
hatua ya kuzinduliwa rasmi.
Kwa upande wake Mkurugenzi Mkuu wa
TMA, Dkt. Agnes Kijazi alitoa msisitizo kwa wadau kuzingatia matumizi sahihi ya taarifa za hali
ya hewa ili kuongeza tija na ufanisi katika shughuli za kiuchumi na kijamii na
pia kuweza kukabiliana na majanga yatokanayo na hali mbaya ya hewa. Dkt. Kijazi
aliwashukuru kituo cha kimataifa cha utafiti (IRI) kutoka Marekani kwa
kushirikiana na TMA kwa kipindi cha miaka mitatu katika kuandaa mfumo huo.
Vilevile aliwashukuru wadhamini wa uzinduzi wa mfumo huo ambao ni DFID kupitia
chuo kikuu cha Columbia kilichoko Marekani.
Uzinduzi huo ulifanyika katika Ukumbi wa
Blue pearl tarehe 18 Desemba 2015 nakushirikisha wadau mbalimbali kutoka Wizara
na Taasisi za Serikali pamoja na asasi za kiraia.
